Things are going quite as planned for Swedish manufacturer Saab, currently faced with a reduced sales target for 2010 and the necessity of trimming some 200 jobs because of this. Yet, the models presented this year are hoped to make a difference from 2011 onwards. And they'll even get an extra hand to do so.
In an attempt to capture the minds and pockets of possible buyers, Saab announced that the first 500 people to pre-order a brand new 9-4X will also receive a free iPad. Of course, there is a catch for those less serious of you.
In order to prevent fraud or something similar, Saab will charge you when you place the pre-order the value of the down payment for the car and an extra $500 for the iPad. Of course, Saab will refund you the $500, but only after you have purchased the actual 9-4X.
Presented in October, the 9-4X is the first crossover from Saab. The model comes powered by two V6 engines, a 3.0l naturally-aspirated and a 2.8l turbo. The units are paired to a six-speed automatic transmission and develop 265 hp and 300 hp, respectively.
The car is packed with technology, including the very comprehensive infotainment system, which comprises the optional 8-inch, touchscreen hard disk based navigation system and the Bose system with 5.1 surround sound.
Orders for the new 9-4X, complete with the iPad to go with it, will open in mid-January. The aforementioned offer will only last until February 28 or until all the 500 slots which will give you a shot at the iPads are filled.
