After in the end of last week Saab insiders leaked the first details and a few photos showing the very special 9-3 Independence Edition convertible, the guys from Trollhattan have flooded the web today with the complete details and a fresh gallery of photos showing the model. Created as a means for the auto maker to celebrate its independence (read separation from GM), the Independence will pack a series of unique features, wrapped in a body whose production will stop exactly when the counter reaches 366 units. The number represents the number of days in the first year of independence for the auto maker, plus one for the start of a second year. Packing a choice of two engines (1.9l two-stage turbo diesel 180 hp and a 2.0l gasoline turbo 220 hp, also E85 compatible), both paired to six-speed automatic or manual transmissions, the Independence will feature the following unique upgrades: five spoke, 18-inch alloy wheels with a satin chrome/black finish orange trimmed beige sports leather seats and glovebox carbon-fiber look leather finish for the instrument panel, handbrake, gearshift molding and door handles driver ‘welcome’ message in instrument display, unique turbo boost gauge orange stitched sports leather steering wheel and carpet mats with grey piping. The Independence will make its public entrance at the Geneva Auto Show next month, with the information surrounding the pricing likely to be revealed soon after. autoevolution will be attending the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
