Part of the widest offensive of new models to be released by Swedish manufacturer Saab over the next year, the Saab 9-3 Griffin has put on the good clothes and revealed itself to the public prior to the official unveiling at the Geneva Auto Show next week.
The Griffin, which will become a range of 9-3 models of its own, will be replacing the Sport Sedan, SportCombi, Convertible and 9-3X specifications in the range. To set it apart from what once was, Saab has fitted the new model with new front bumpers, signature Saab ice block headlamps and a Griffin badge on the front fenders. At the interior, revised instrument panel, cabin decor and seat upholstery bring a touch of new.
To be offered in two trim levels, standard and Aero, the Griffin will pack a new 2.0l gasoline engines with two different power outputs, 163 and 220 horsepower. The new unit will join the existing line-up which comprises the 1.9 TTiD turbo diesel (130/160/180 hp). All engines will be equipped as standard with six-speed transmissions.
As a treat for those looking for more eco-oriented Saab models, the auto maker will also offer Saab BioPower variants for both versions of the gasoline engine, meaning that the models will be capable of running on E85 biofuel.
The prices for the new 9-3 Griffin range have not been revealed. The auto maker will probably make the announcement in the weeks following the Geneva event.
