Now that the inline 6-cylinder configuration is making a return, there’s more attention on the E46 M3 than ever. The S54 engine it used to power the iconic car, is now a rather rare bird.
Just as rare are E36 Bimmers using it, therefore when you get to witness one in action, you’d better pay attention, as I did when the guys from European Auto Source posted this video on Youtube.
The car we’re looking at here underwent some serious surgery, receiving not only the S54 engine but also its transmission along with it, now posting a beautiful 293 WHP on the dyno, plenty more than the stock S50 engine that powered E36 M3s in the US.
The best thing about this car, though, is that it’s lighter than its younger brother, making this a more than fun Bimmer to drive.
