Since the car hasn't been launched for that long and isn't even in all showrooms yet, the W222 S-Class is only available with the 4MATIC all-wheel drive for two engine configurations: the S500 4-MATIC and the mighty S63 AMG 4MATIC.
That is soon to change, as the next S-Class version to receive all-wheel drive as an option will be the S350 CDI BlueTEC. According to Mercedes-Benz Passion the car will be available for ordering from January 2014, with the market launch in Germany happening sometime in March 2014.
Both short and Lang (long wheelbase) versions will receive the optional update, with more engine options to follow suit during 2014.
The report also mentions that the new 9-speed ultra-efficient transmission will replace the 7 G-Tronic in the 350 CDI and the 500, though the S 400 Hybrid and the 63 AMG will keep the 7-speed.
The Mercedes-Benz S350 CDI has 258 hp and 620 Nm (457,3 lb/ft) of torque, helping the luxury car achieve 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.8 seconds, while the top speed is limited to 250 km/h (155 mph). We suspect the 4-MATIC version will best the acceleration figures by at least one tenth of a second.
