Among the automotive media invited to the first driving event of the new Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG juggernaut were also the yanks from Car&Driver. Unlike Road&Track's test drive of the same car, Car&Driver's isn't filled with discrepancies and errors, so it's much more pleasurable to read.
C&D's Jens Meiners managed to capture all the car's most important features without mixing them up and also added a bit of history into the review, with the overall result being how a true car review should be like.
As you probably already know, the Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG is currently the most dynamic S-Class ever, while its 4Matic all-wheel drive version (standard in the US, optional in other countries and not available in right-hand drive markets) is the fastest accelerating “Sonder Klasse” in the history of the brand.
Just 4 seconds are necessary for it to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standing start officially, with C&D's review estimating about 3.5 seconds from naught to 60 mph in real life.
The 585 hp and 900 Nm (664 lb ft) of torque of the M157 V8 are mainly “to blame” for the above figures, but the 4Matic all-wheel drive system is actually the main culprit, since the rear-wheel drove version is almost half a second slower to 100 km/h (62 mph).
