The W222 generation of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class is heralded by the Germans as the safest road car they have ever built, but this is pretty much what they say about every new generation of the “Sonder Klasse” when they launch it.
Such was the case with the previous W221, so many people have started to take all this marketing mumbo jumbo for granted.
Unfortunately, a Mercedes-Benz S 400 Hybrid owner from the United States had to learn how safe his car was the hard way, by driving with it down a 400 feet (120 meters) slope after trying to evade a frontal collision with an SUV driving the wrong way.
“You know, it was such a horseshoe turn that I don’t think the other driver knew what happened. Though they were definitely over the double line, I’m not mad at them. I was a big city cop for 15 years - stabbed twice, shot four times - and people say I have nine lives. I still have plenty left.” the man told Mercedes-Benz USA.
The accident happened back in August, but the pictures with the aftermath were only posted these past few days on the MB USA Facebook page. The only question still left unanswered is if the ex-cop is waiting for the new S 400 Hybrid (W222) to be launched in the United States, as it should be an even safer car than his old one and may even increase his number of cat lives by at least a couple when driving it.
