When making car comparisons, most automotive media outlets choose models from the same segment, but this is not always the case.
Why would you compare apples to apples when you could compare apples to RC helicopters, for example?
This is pretty much what the Brits from Auto Express did, when they pitted the Mercedes-Benz S 350 BlueTec against its main rivals in Great Britain – the Audi A8 3.0 TDI and the... Range Rover TDV6.
Indeed, we got the “luxury” tag line that in theory would be make all three cars similar from this point of view, but Mercedes-Benz already has a more-than-worthy direct competitor for the Range Rover in the shape of the GL-Class.
Either way, as expected, the S-Class wins the odd comparison hands down, taking first place in almost all testing areas. It apparently only lost to the Range Rover in the luggage compartment capacity and its ergonomics.
We're just wondering to what British car will they compare the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class – will it be the Jaguar XJ to make it even?
