RWD BMW X5 Will Arrive in Australia Next Year for AUD82,900

This week the new X5 will go on sale in Australia but it will be limited to only 3 variants, at first. Those three will have a so-called 'entry-level' model  in the shape of the AUD99,900 xDrive30d, whilst the other two will cost you AUD133,900 or AUD147,900 for the xDrive50i or the M50d version, respectively.

However, starting with March 2014, Australians can go for the brand new rear-wheel-drive model that will also become the new entry-level version, in the shape of the sDrive25d with a starting price of AUD82,900.

For that kind of money, you'll be getting a 1,995 kg (4,398 lbs) SUV that has a 2-liter turbocharged diesel engine under the bonnet, making 218 HP and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque, mated to an automatic 8-speed gearbox.

In this configuration, the new car will reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in a respectable 8.2 seconds and will return an average fuel consumption of 41.3 mpg (5.7 l/100 km). Quite attractive, to say the least.

Another new model that will be arriving in Australia next year will be using the same engine but will have all-whelk-drive transmission, dubbed xDrive25d and will be a bit heavier, tipping the scale at 2,040 kg (4,497 lbs) and pricier, starting at AUD87,900.
