With the end of the 2009 season just around the corner, NASCAR teams are scrambling to find out what went wrong (or good, for that matter) and fix the issues for the 2010 season.
Having found that it is a bit difficult to beat teams which field Toyota vehicles, Rusty Wallace Racing will apply the old "if you can't beat them, join them" saying. RWR, finding itself in the final stages of its two-year support given by Chevrolet, will field Toyota cars for the 2010 Nationwide Series.
"We decided that at the end of the day, our goal as a race team is simple: to win races and championships. Thus, we all had to take a long look at which manufacturer partner could best help us reach that goal," Rusty Wallace told NASCAR.
"I'm very proud to have the opportunity for the team and I to represent the Toyota brand. Our team's decision on manufacturers involved input from a lot of people within the organization."
That about all the changes we'll see in RWR's garage. The two drivers, Steve Wallace and Brendan Gaughan, will continue with RWR in 2010.
With the established US-based NASCAR supporters Chevrolet, Dodge and Ford finding it more and more difficult to maintain the same level of involvement as in previous years, Toyota was just about the single choice left for RWR.
"Chevrolet has been a great partner for our team and on behalf of RWR, I'd like to thank Pat Suhy, Shane Martin and everyone at GM Racing for their dedication and support," Wallace concluded. "They were a key in our team's growth the past two seasons."
