Russian Tug of War

It had been a while since last saw a nice tug of war piece, but we’ve just come across a truly unique one, so we’ll share it with you. What makes this so special is that the action takes place far, far away from the usual US locations - for this one we’ll be traveling to Russia.

In the Blue Corner, we have a first-generation Kia Cerato, while the Dark Blue Corner is occupied by an Opel Astra Sedan (Astra H). Let’s leave the fact that both are front-wheel driven aside for a moment and focus on the physical connection between the two - the Astra is towing the Cerato, on a snowy road.

From this point on, the dash cam madness is unleashed, as we see the two vehicles performing a struggle where the towed vehicle becomes the one that... tows. You’ll see what we mean when you watch the clip, but before that we have to explain what is actually going on.

It appears that the Astra’s handbrake gets stuck just before the two have to make a right-hand turn. While we understand that snow and ice can sometimes cause the handbrake cable to become stuck, we’re not quite sure why the leading drive would pull this in the first place.

From this point on, the driver of the Astra desperately tries to keep the car straight, obviously failing, so the one in the Cerato is basically forced to help with the steering so that the two don’t end up crashing. Enjoy the ride!
