The tanks have given their best, the servicemen have showed off their skills, and the best team won. This year’s Tank Biathlon winners of the all-army stage have been announced.
There’s no other similar event of this magnitude that gathers such an impressive number of tanks. The international phase of the competition is better known, but the national stage of the Russian Tank Biathlon is just as interesting, if you enjoy the idea of all kinds of tanks racing each other in a complex competition.

What are considered the best tank platoons of the Western, Southern, Central and Eastern Military Districts, together with the Kazan Higher Tank Command School and other prestigious military schools, participated in the competition, which began on May 17. After the final races of the T-72B3M tanks, which were held at the end of last week, at the training ground in the Chelyabinsk region, the winners were announced.

The Central Military District (CMD) team won the all-army stage of the Tank Biathlon, the Kazan Higher Tank Command School’s team won second place, and the Southern Military District crew won third place. And, when you hear about some of the tasks that these tanks had to perform, you’ll know that it sure wasn’t an easy competition. In fact, Russian military officials stated that the Army Game can be compared to any other sports championship in the world, even if real tanks and other military vehicles are involved.

In fact, the training ground at the Chelyabinsk region was used as a race track for tanks, with various tests along the way. The participating tanks had to overcome several types of obstacles, both natural and artificial, such as ditches, mounds, explosives and a fire strip. And, there were also target firing tests and 2 penalty circles, of 1,640 ft. (500 m) each. All of this while operating in the hot weather of the Urals, with temperatures inside the tanks going as far as 86 degrees Fahrenheit (50 degrees Celsius).

But it doesn’t stop here for the winning tank crews. The judges will also select the best among them, in order to create the team that will represent Russia at the International Tank Biathlon.
