Road rules are ignored in Russia with such nonchalance that some foreigners would be forgiven for thinking they have none. They do have them, and they are just as strict as they are everywhere else in the world, yet Russian drivers seem not to care at all about them, and the reason they were imposed in the first place.
Take the driver of the blue Skoda Favorit in this video. As others are waiting patiently at a set of traffic lights, in a moderately-sized queue, the Skoda driver decides he has had enough and tries to sprint onto the oncoming lane, over a double white line. However, the oncoming lane was not clear, and he smashes right into another car, with a dash-mounted camera.
This is sheer stupidity and we don`t even feel sorry for the Favorit driver, as he got what he deserved for trying to be ‘smarter’ than everybody else and not wait in line. Thankfully, though, the speeds involved were not really fast enough to cause anybody any serious injuries, but we do hope the crash convinced the Skoda driver never to try anything like that ever again.
