Runaway Teenage Driver Shows Daytona Beach Police Chief How a PIT Maneuver Goes

Just like boys will be boys, teenagers will do stupid things - it’s one of the few things you can be certain in life. But since you can’t just lock them away until they hit their twenties, they have to be allowed to roam freely in our society.

For the most part, they manage to keep their actions within some acceptable limits, avoiding that critical threshold that will have them face the long arm of the law.

As long as your kid manages to go through this troublesome period of his life without finding out what a subpoena is, you can blow a huge sigh of relief. And get ready for college, which is just as difficult, only you won’t have him around anymore.

We’ve done our share of regrettable things during those years, things it’s best to keep to ourselves, but at least all those experiences taught us something and, most importantly, we didn’t get caught.

The three unnamed teens in this story weren’t that lucky. The 16-year-olds saw a car left unattended with the engine on and decided it would considerably shorten the duration of their commute back home. They jumped right into the previous generation Honda CR-V and took off.

The driver immediately called the police, and a squad car was on to the runaway teens in less than two minutes. Reports say the crossover had two of its tires blown off by the police before the kids managed to escape, but Daytona Beach police chief initiated a pursuit in his car. Probably assuming the teenagers would be more complying than they turned out to be, the officer tried to force them to pull over by driving in front of their car and slowing down.

The teens were having none of it, so they went round the outside, blocked off the second police car and pulled a similar move on the one that tried to stop them, pushing it out of the road. The officer chose to accelerate, so the CR-V veered right, executing a perfect PIT maneuver that had the police cruiser do an almost complete 360 degrees spin, ending up sideways across the oncoming lane.

The kids did crash the stolen car a few minutes afterwards, so their driving skills weren’t exactly as godlike as this footage might have you believe, but the good news is that nobody got hurt, even though the probabilities were quite high. Of course, they were all arrested and are probably facing serious charges - enough to help them get over this stage in their lives locked away.
