Rumors Getting Strong: Adios, Knight Rider?

NBC revealed its fall lineup on Monday, and Knight Rider was not on the list. As expected, the day that many fans of Knight Rider feared came, leaving the show outside any future perspectives.

Since its release, the show has been more than predictable. Its creators went with the Mustang GT, but kept the name KITT (Knight Industries Three Thousand) in hope of a similar success with the previous one.

As the press release said at that time, “absolutely the coolest car ever created, KITT is equipped with AI (artificial intelligence) that is capable of hacking almost any system. Its weapon's systems match that of a jet fighter, its body is capable of actually transforming into other vehicle and it uses sophisticated holographic imagery to elude villains”. Not so cool after all.

After the ratings decreased dramatically from one episode to another and NBC reduced their number for the first season from 22 to 17, many critics began to write that Knight Rider was cancelled, but in fact, NBC never made public the confirmation.

And it still hasn't, at least until May 19, when the official decision is due to arrive. It’s a common practice for networks to announce midseason replacements, even if many shows were cut off the list and announced as missing the start line.

For example, last year, the show Friday Night Lights, thought by many to be cancelled, survived for this year thanks to a sponsorship by DirecTV. The same thing with the Knight Rider show, which wouldn’t have made it to a season if it wasn’t for the promotional and financial support of Ford.

The question is... will Ford save Knight Rider for another season?
