Carmelo Ezpeleta, chief of MotoGP rights holder Dorna, has officialy confirmed that Suzuki asked for the right do to some testing during the 2013 season. Ezpeleta has also mad eit clear that there will definitely be no MotoGP Suzuki team racing in 2013, but premises indicate good odds to see the Japanese team in the starting grids in 2014.
After a legendary presence spanning over 35 years, Suzuki pulled out the MotoGP races back in 2011 for financial reasons, leaving only three manufacturers in the competition: Honda, Ducati and Yamaha. No word on who will be driving the Suzuki bikes, but this will not be a secret for much longer.
At the same time, it looks like Suzuki will also have a lot of time to get the bikes prepared for full compliance with the new regulations due to be effective starting with the 2014 season, such as spec ECU and data logger.
Still, with a lot of time until then, we might see some additional changes to the rules of the game, but having Suzuki back in the MotoGP would really be indeed nice.
