That’s one of the cool parts of being a sportsman; you get to drive new cars for free just because automakers use your fame to promote their cars. It’s the case with rugby union player Mike Phillips who is putting UK's best-selling plug-in hybrid to the test thanks to a Mitsubishi dealership in Bridgend.
Wales’ most-capped scrum-half now playing for French club Racing Metro, Phillips is using a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV lent by Nathaniel Cars of Bridgend while back in Wales for the next few months.

Here’s what the sportsman has to say about the hybrid: “I’m so impressed with the PHEV. I can’t believe how quiet it is, and the fuel efficiency is outstanding. It’s a great hybrid vehicle, and I can understand why it has won so many awards over the past year!

Wayne Griffiths, the Managing Director of Nathaniel Cars, which is the shop that lent the car to him claims they made the choice after closely following the rugby player. “It’s a star car for a star player, and we know he’ll love driving it because of its fantastic environmental and fuel economy credentials as well as its impressive performance,” Griffiths said.

Speaking of performance, the PHEV is quite popular in the UK, as we mentioned, with the Outlander becoming England’s best-selling plug-in hybrid. According to Mitsubishi Motors, they sold 10,000 of them by the end of March 2015. In terms of specs, we’ll remind you that the car has an electric range of 32,5 miles, emits 44g of CO2 per kilometer, and boasts an official combined fuel consumption figure of 148 miles per gallon.
