RUF Dakara On Display in Geneva

The Pfaffenhausen based German car builder RUF came to the 2009 Geneva Auto Show with what they call a high luxury SUV. Using a Porsche Cayenne as a basis for the project, RUF designed the car to develop no less than 600 horsepower.

The vehicle is powered by a V8 turbocharged engine which allows it to go from naught to sixty in 4.8 seconds. The manufacturer redesigned both the chassis and the brake system, which is now made of ceramic-composite materials, so that they may meet the performance of the car.

But the most striking modifications made to the Cayenne are the visual ones. RUF chose to blend some of the racing spirit of the 911 into the SUV and fitted the headlights of the smaller model onto the Dakara. The broadened fenders and all other modifications seen on the car are build to fit every Cayenne, and even if pricing has not been announced, the kit looks like it's worth it.

Of course, Dakara features interior upgrades and infotainment systems too. The car uses cameras mounted in the front and the back of the car to give the driver a better road perspective. if seeing the road does not please the driver, the high-end multimedia system with TV reception can be used to access the Internet.

RUF Automobile was founded in 1932. Since then, the company established itself as a manufacturer because of its habit of using unmarked Porsche bodies and chassis to build their own cars. While Mercedes has Brabus, RUF is Porsche's largest tuner. The 2009 Geneva Auto Show also witnesses RUF's eDrive, the preliminary version of a concept made in collaboration with Siemens.
