Mecum Auctions’ 2021 Kissimmee event will take place just a few days after the Christmas holiday ends, but that doesn’t mean Bronco fans shouldn’t prepare a bucket load of cash for a custom project that would perfectly fit next to the tree. And it would be a natural in the forest, as well.
We’re not going to rant about Ford’s decision to postpone the first deliveries of the 2021 Bronco for next summer due to alleged issues with a supplier for the removable tops. We already know there’s an easy culprit for any issue this year – the ongoing health crisis.
We’re not even going to remind you that patience might reward fans with an even better modern Bronco – the high-performance Warthog prototype spotting is now more common than a mall parking lot jam on Christmas Eve.
It’s simply because we have something that’s a little better in our logbook. Or, rather, call it a dream wish list, given the estimate for this listing – Mecum expects the project to fetch between $150 and $175k. But, if anyone has the cash, this restomod combines the classic looks of a 1976 Bronco will all the modern amenities you would expect on a 2021 model year vehicle and then some.
That’s because it also adds something that’s apparently out of the question for an official 2021 Bronco build – a feisty V8. Case in point, the 5.0-liter V8 lurking under the Ruby Red hood of the ‘76 Bronco is of the Coyote variety. It’s also supercharged and hooked up to a 6R80 six-speed automatic transmission.
That should take care of road performance. How about rock crawling, then? It’s also covered, of course, thanks to a 2-speed Atlas transfer case, Dana 44 front differential with 4.56 gears, and the nine-inch Ford rear end.
The pristine exterior and interior look comes courtesy of an extensive build that covered everything, from stripping and reinforcing the frame to adding all the off-road suspension one would ever need. Even luxury touches were considered, such as the diamond-stitched tan leather or the wood-trimmed steering wheel.
We also appreciate the level of detail: Ford’s lettering is done in contrasting red or black at the front and back, access is facilitated by the retractable running boards, and there’s even digital instrumentation and a push-button engine start/stop system.
