Roland Sands Design (RSD) sure makes some of the coolest custom motorcycles, and they can only be matched by the riding gear the company also offers. In this case, we're talking about the new Bell Helmets RSD 74.
Most of RSD's custom bikes are beautifully combining modern and retro, same as the RSD 74 helmet here. Originally hand painted by the company's crew, the helmet is put through a lifetime of abuse to achieve that nice worn and unique look.
Now, don't worry, it might look like it dates back from the '70s, but the shell is made out of composite fiberglass, and it comes with an industry-leading five-year warranty. The helmet is also fitted with multi-density EPS liner, a leather D-ring pull tab, quilted micro suede liner and a padded chin-strap with the classic D-ring closure system.
The RSD 74 helmet comes open-faced by default, but if you don't want dust, bugs and pebbles hitting your physiognomy, the shell is already fitted with 5 snaps that can take most aftermarket shields and visors.
The worn-out metallic look is completed by a retro artwork comprising a torn apart American flag on the right side and a hand-brushed "ALL AMERICAN RSD 74" logo on the left. Classic striping is also part of the scheme.
"Throwbacks and retro lids are nice, but nothing beats an original," Roland Sands Design notes. "Back in 1954 Bell founder Roy Richter formed his first helmet out of fiberglass and named it the '500'. Bell’s Custom 500 pays homage to Richter’s original design while adding modern protective technology to bring the design up-to-date."
