If successful, the partnership announced today between American icon Roush Industries and EV importer and distributor Green Automotive Company Corporation will end up releasing into the US what may very well be the first all electric SUV on the market.
Green Automotive announced today that it is about to begin, with the help of Roush, testing of the electric version of the Zotye SUV, a vehicle manufactured in China by a local auto maker. The testing of the model is aimed at insuring that the Zotye complies with all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
The features to be tested by the two can be summed up in the phrase “the entire vehicle.” Roush will mostly put through their paces essential systems like airbags, seat belts and other safety design elements.
“Engineers from Roush have recently finished four days of initial inspections here in California, performing an engineering review of the All-Electric SUV,” said Fred Luke, Green Automotive president. “We intend to stay on track toward meeting our goal of launching retail sales of the All-Electric SUV in the U.S. through a network of selected dealerships by the end of this year.”
The Zotye is powered by a lithium-ion battery which sends the power to an electric motor. The vehicle is capable of a top speed of up to 70 mph and a range of up to 150 miles. The model will retail in the US, provided it passes Roush's testing, for $35,995, starting the second quarter of the year.
The model comes equipped as standard with A/C & heating system, power windows and power locks, DVD audio system, integrated electric system monitoring screen and fast charging port.
