It’s been a glorious weekend for many of the Italian MotoGP riders in Misano, as the local hero and riding legend Valentino Rossi claimed his first victory after the Assen 2013 one, on the Marco Simoncelli circuit only miles away from his hometown of Tavullia. The Doctor has started the fight from the early stages of the Sunday race, battling with team mate Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez.

It looked like a very good Sunday for Rossi as he managed to steal the lead from Lorenzo after having dispatched of Marquez, but the place was hard-earned with multiple switches of positions. Marquez made an error and low-sided as he was chasing the 9-time world champion. He managed to restart the bike and finally climbed back to the 15th position and earn 1 point.

Dani Pedrosa could not keep up with Lorenzo and had to settle for 3rd, especially Andrea Dovizioso has tailgated him for almost the entire race. Top 5 was rounded up by another Ducati rider, Pramac’s Andrea Iannone, who also ran a great race.

Top 10 was completed with Pol Espargaro, who know has a 6-point lead over his brother Aleix after he crashed out of the race before the end, Bradley Smith, Alvaro bautista, Cal Crutchlow and Yonny Hernandez. A good 11th position and 5 points were also added to Karel Abraham, as well.

Stefan Bradl, Danilo Petrucci and Mike Di Meglio also crashed out of the race, but only the latter was injured. The Avintia rider suffered a displaced fracture of two carpal bones on his left hand in the first lap crash and will soon be operated.

Ahead of the 28 September Aragon round, Marc Marquez is still leading with 289 points in the overall standing, with a comfortable advantage over Dani Pedrosa, who has 215 points. However, Rossi is now 1 point behind Pedrosa. Lorenzo is 4th with 177 points and he has to start winning races again if he wants a podium position at the end of the season. Dovizioso is 5th overall, with 142 points.
