Rossi Wants Less-Performance Tires for Next Season

The multi-champion Valentino Rossi talked about the possibility of a single tire manufacturer for the 2009 MotoGP season, explaining that one possible solution would be the introduction of less-performance tires for all riders. In addition, The Doctor explained that the MotoGP organizers should talk with the all the riders before taking a decision as a potential single tire supplier rule is mainly affecting the riders and their bike configurations.

"I hope they speak with us and want to understand our point of view as the riders, and ask our advice. Usually they hear us and if we have some good ideas, they take care of us. The riders are quite important and are part of the decision so I think we have to agree with the number of tires. If they make seven types of tire for one year, the proposal is to bring two of the types to every race,” Rossi said according to autosport.com.

Tires make the difference between MotoGP riders with the best example given straight by Valentino Rossi who had a disappointing 2007 season due to Michelin tires. Moreover, he regained the World Championship title this year, after switching to Bridgestone, a fact which does nothing more than to support this idea. However, Rossi recommends a single tire type that would fit all motorcycles, rather than several models that would require additional testings for all MotoGP teams.

"We have to understand the situation. They have to do one tire that works for all the manufacturers. To do this, I think the tyre has to have less performance. I think it's impossible to make one tyre that is perfect for all the bikes, but I think they can make one tyre that is good for all the bikes,” the 29-year-old rider told the aforementioned source.
