Rossi in Pain, But Eager to Test New Shoulder

As we previously reported, Valentino Rossi has had an intervention to his shoulder last weekend, and is currently recovering from his surgery. Albeit the Italian rider is struggling with a lot of pain, he says it’s “as good as new” and that he can’t wait to put it to the test.

The seven-time MotoGP world champion also had a short moment of truthfulness and stated that his shoulder was in much worse condition than expected before surgery, which he has postponed after completing his first Ducati test at Valencia.

"I feel quite in pain, it hurts a lot, but it's normal in the days that follow surgery," he said in an interview with Italian TV programme Striscia la Notizia via autosport.com. "I struggle to sleep, but the operation went well, everything is okay. Now my arm is tied to my neck, but the shoulder should get back to 100 per cent, so it's just a matter of time."

The 31-year-old, whose performances this season have also been affected by a broken leg, also revealed that he wasn’t fully aware of the severity of the injury until he was in hospital.

"Unfortunately the shoulder was in a lot worse condition than we had expected, so the operation lasted twice as long as it should have," continued Rossi. "All the tendons and everything else that was believed to perhaps be slightly damaged, were in fact completely broken, so I have a new shoulder now."

"They've given me a new shoulder, I can't wait to test it!"
he concluded.

Rossi had suffered cartilage and joint damage to his shoulder in a motocross training accident back in April. The Doctor is now in a rehabilitation period aimed at having him ready to test at Sepang next February.
