Rossi Contemplates Superbike Future with Ducati

Much speculation has appeared in recent years regarding Valentino Rossi's future career in motorcycle racing. In fact, the media – especially in Italy – started to speculate on the Doctor's future commitments outside the MotoGP, after he will have ended his career in the series.

Once he moved to Ducati, people started fancying a potential switch to Formula 1 with Ferrari, given the closeness between these two iconic Italian companies. However, during some interviews late last year, the 7-time MotoGP champion also admitted that he would like to drive in NASCAR or even in the Le Mans 24 Hours race at one point in his career.

One racing series that remained unexplored by the media – yet where the majority of the MotoGP riders go once they've accomplished their goals in the FIM premier motorcycling series – is the World Superbike Championship. And according to a recent Rossi interview to Reuters, the Italian would like to ride a Ducati in the aforementioned championship in the future.

“In a few years, when I'm older, I could even race in Superbikes with Ducati,” said Rossi, who has recently tested a WSBK-spec Ducati during his recuperation period following his shoulder surgery this winter.

If that were the case, Rossi would go for a record that is yet to be set by any rider in the history of the sport. So far, no man has succeeded in clinching titles in both the World Superbike and MotoGP World Championships, the only riders still holding potential chances for doing so being the two current Yamaha riders Colin Edwards and Ben Spies, both former champs of the WSBK series.

Another competition where Rossi might choose to spent his last years in racing could by the World Rally Championship, where he had a few outings in recent years on Subaru and Ford rally cars.
