Rosberg Wins $700 at Poker in Melbourne Casino

Nico Rosberg did not want to miss one minute of the Australian GP action this upcoming weekend, so he rushed to Melbourne from as early as today. However, when reaching his hotel room at Melbourne's Crown Casino, the German racer found out that it wasn't ready.

Known as a poker enthusiast – he often spoke of the poker sessions he has with fellow F1 racers Robert Kubica, Fernando Alonso and Giancarlo Fisichella – Rosberg used the spare time to visit the casino of his hotel and play some poker while waiting for his room to be ready for check-in. According to local reports, it seems the poker session turned out great for the 24-year old.

While showing up in the casino with $100, the Mercedes driver walked away with an overall $800. We're not sure how many hours Rosberg has spent at the poker table on Tuesday, but we'd say it was worth it.

Just like the majority of the F1 drivers this week, Rosberg decided to reach Down Under a little sooner that for the rest of the grands prix this year, because of the time zone difference between Europe and Australia (GMT + 10) – the drivers will need at least a couple of days to adjust to the time zone.

In a media preview of the Australian Grand Prix, Rosberg admitted that he'll look to improve on his Bahrain performance – where he ranked 5th in the opening race of the season – and targets a podium finish in Melbourne. According to several reports lately, his Mercedes W01 will have to use an altered rear diffuser at Albert Park, which will lead to a poorer downforce level on the Aussie track.
