Rosberg Wants to Become Grand Prix Winner in 2011

Nico Rosberg admitted that he will tackle the 2011 season of Formula One with one thought in mind: clinch his first career win in the series. Although he has been on the podium several times in the past – on the last three occasions, he did it while in a Mercedes W01 – the German has never felt the taste of winning in the Great Circus.

And looking towards the near future – the upcoming season, that is – he feels more confident than ever that he will become a Grand Prix winner. And that's for two reasons. Firstly, Mercedes GP started focusing on their 2011 car much sooner than its rivals, and we have all seen how this move usually turns out when Ross Brawn is in command of things (Brawn GP case speaks for itself).

Secondly, the Mercedes GP squad has become more organized through the past year, which will help the team focus more clearly on a strategy for the future.

It's not easy for us because from where we were in 2010, it's not so straightforward to make that jump because everyone else has a headstart. It's difficult, but it's achievable. We need to wait and see,” Nico Rosberg was quoted as saying in an interview with British magazine Autosport.

His team boss Ross Brawn fully supports his driver for the upcoming season, saying that winning a race has become like a psychological barrier for Rosberg. Once he gets it over with, he will show his true potential in the series, something that he has already began doing in 2010 (when he became the first teammate of Michael Schumacher to beat the German over a full season).

He's a quiet driver in the sense that you don't see many flamboyant actions on track. But when he gets past someone, he's good in terms of overtaking. He just gets on with it and maybe that hasn't captured the public's imagination. Once he wins a race, which he will do, that will change,” opinionated Brawn.
