Rosberg Not Afraid of Schumacher, Vettel

Mercedes GP's Nico Rosberg insisted that there is no reason why he shouldn't be optimistic for the season to come, especially since he and his team have worked hard to catch up over the winter. While acknowledging that the difference between him and teammate Michael Schumacher will probably shrink in 2011, Rosberg believes it will still be him to emerge on top.

It may be close between us, and maybe he will beat me, but there's no way he's going to put me in the shade,” insisted Rosberg when talking to the media during the Berlin Fashion Week. “There is no reason why I would be worse than last year – on the contrary, I will be better!

Having beat his 7-time world champion of a teammate constantly through the 2010 campaign, Rosberg feels pretty good about himself, and that confidence also regards his other German rival in a potential title fight, newly crowned world champion Sebastian Vettel. Asked about his countryman's success, Rosberg insisted that he will get to achieve the same things as Vettel did soon enough.

Where (Sebastian) Vettel is now? I'll get there. He has a good team around him in Red Bull, but myself and the whole team at Mercedes are working like crazy to catch up,” he added.

As far as the 2011 season goes, the 25-year old driver admits Red Bull will continue to be the team to beat, and finds it odd that Fernando Alonso, the Ferrari-an who almost became world champion for the third time last season, doesn't see that. In a recent interview with the media, the Spaniard had argued that Michael Schumacher will be his main rival for the title in 2011.

It doesn't really interest me, but I found it a little strange that you wouldn't say Red Bull is your nearest rival. That seems pretty obvious,” said Rosberg about Alonso's comments.
