Rosberg Issues Twilight Warnings ahead of Australian GP

After Jenson Button, German driver Nico Rosberg also warned about the dangerous situations that might appear on the Albert Park circuit during the late stages of the race, given the late starting hour of the Sunday action. Like last year, this season's Aussie race will start off at 5 PM local time, meaning the last few laps will probably be ran in twilight conditions.

If the sun is very low in the sky, it will be a big problem, especially with the high sides on the front of the cockpits this year,” said Rosberg in a media preview of the 2010 Australian Grand Prix.

This is not the first time Rosberg warns about the negative effects twilight racing can have in terms of drivers' safety, as he was the first racer to speak up about this problem last year. In an effort to bring the starting hour of the race at a more decent airing time in Europe, Bernie Ecclestone worked on moving the action later in the day.

Rosberg's warning came as soon as the 2009 race had ended, as he publicly asked the organizers to rethink their entire schedule due to safety reasons. He revealed that he had difficulties in seeing the edges of the track in some corners, while also driving with the sun in his face for the last few laps of the race.

The same twilight-related problems – combined with some heavy rain – occurred during last year's Malaysian Grand Prix also, when the race was red-flagged and never resumed due to the immense quantity of water on the track. Due to the race's late starting hour, the drivers were unable to resume action when the track had dried because it was already too dark.

As compared to the Australian organizers however, Malaysia managed to pressure Ecclestone into changing the race start hour for the 2010 race.
