Rosberg Issues Apology to Schumacher for Blocking Incident

Finally, the first sparkle happened between the two Mercedes GP drivers yesterday, during the last session of the qualifying action in the Principality. While fighting for a better position on the grid for the Sunday race, Michael Schumacher told reporters he was blocked by his own teammate.

Rosberg has out-qualified Schumacher on every occasion this season, except for the Spanish Grand Prix, and the German was trying to take care of that with a consecutive “personal win” over Rosberg in Monaco. However, in a press release from Mercedes GP, Schumacher insisted that he could have done better on Saturday – he qualified 7th, behind his teammate – had he not been blocked by Rosberg.

It's a shame but there you go. It happened in Q3 when there were only ten cars on the track,” said Schumacher after qualifying, insisting however that Rosberg’s blocking happened “unintentionally.”

Shortly after, Rosberg issued an apology for what happened, admitting that he blocked Schumacher but that it didn’t happen on purpose.

I apologized because I realized that it wasn't ideal,” said Rosberg, who was himself frustrated with the traffic situation on the last session of the qualifying meeting.

“I should have had pole, or at least first row of the grid. I just didn't get it together; too many laps with traffic and I made a mistake myself,” added the German driver.

Additionally, team principal Ross Brawn took the blame for the blocking incident on Saturday, saying that his team had some problems with the radio and GPS systems, which is what led to the two drivers bumping into each other on the circuit.
