Rosberg Feels Confident About 2011 Campaign

Having completed one full season at Mercedes GP in 2010 – a quite struggling campaign, we might add – German driver Nico Rosberg believes there is certainly reason to hope for the better next year. He scored the team's only 3 podiums this past season, all of which were 3rd places, but that doesn't mean his expectations for 2011 aren't big.

The expertise is there, but we just need a little time to get everything going in the right direction,” said Rosberg in a recent interview with Auto Bild magazine.

But we are on the right track. Ross Brawn has got the team structure right and, sooner or later, it will happen. It is only a question of whether we manage to achieve it in time for the beginning of the [2011] season because we must not forget that the gap [to the frontrunners] is already quite large,” he added.

Judging by what he did when he was first employed by Honda, we should give Brawn some credit before we start naming favorites for the 2011 season. Back in 2008, Brawn used an entire campaign to develop a strong racer for 2009, and the results he delivered the next season were truly impressive (until running out of funds and struggling in the second part of the championship, which Brawn GP eventually won).

Returning to Rosberg however, the young German admitted that having 7-time world champion Michael Schumacher as a teammate in 2010 was the best thing that could have happened to him, as he learnt a lot from the 41-year old.

We have learned from each other this year and, for me, it was very interesting working with him. I think the public has a false image of Michael. Of course, he tries to gain advantages, but this is quite normal and I'd do the same,” he said, while admitting he takes pride in the fact that he finished the recently ended campaign ahead of Schu.
