Rosberg Fastest on Rain-Affected Jerez Test, Day 1

The first day of testing on the Jerez track was, as expected, affected by rain and many of the drivers that got to take their cars to the circuit this morning only experienced a few laps on a dry track. To be more precise, only the first hour saw real action on the Jerez de la Frontera track, with German driver Nico Rosberg topping the timing reports with the best time of 1:20.927.

The German closed the first hour of testing with 11 laps under his belt, same as Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, while Williams' Nico Hulkenberg ran for a record 17 times around the Jerez track. Nevertheless, the German rookie had to settle for the 3rd time overall, behind Scuderia Toro Rosso's Sebastien Buemi.

The Swiss driver stopped the clock only 0.104 seconds later than Rosberg, after previously setting the fastest time of the first half an hour.

Mark Webber debuted the Red Bull RB6 on the dry track in the early hours of the morning, but his first lap times were the poorest from all the pack. However, his first runs on Wednesday were focused on hims getting acquainted with the new car.

Fernando Alonso, Kamui Kobayashi, Jenson Button, Vitantonio Liuzzi and Vitaly Petrov completed the standings in the time reports from 4th to 8th spot after the first hour of testing, after which rain started to really come down on the Jerez circuit. Consequently, Ferrari decided to call Alonso to the pits and resume action after one hour of break.

For the rest of the morning session, lap times remained in the vicinity of 1:30.000 and, as rain started pouring more aggressively, they went even slower towards 1:32/33.

Virgin Racing is the only team that is yet to make the timing reports in Jerez, as the team had some components for their VR-01 flied over to Jerez during the course of last night. The fitting of those parts took longer than initially expected, which is why Timo Glock is still waiting for his first laps on the new car.
