Rosberg Dismisses Winning Expectations in Spain

Although tipped by his team boss Ross Brawn to win his first race in Formula One very soon, German driver Nico Rosberg piggybacked on Michael Schumacher's cautious comments over the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix, saying that his team is still not in a position to win in 2010.

While admitting that the updates prepared for the Barcelona race will be an important step in the car's development this season, the 24-year old is not thinking of top-of-the-podium performances for the time being. However, he did argue things are going in that direction.

It would be nice (to win), but we must be realistic. At Mercedes we are not yet in a position to win, but in the coming weeks we should make some big steps and I'm hoping to make good progress,” said Rosberg, who also insisted that closing the gap on Red Bull Racing should be the main target for Mercedes in Spain.

That (winning) would be expecting too much. But I do hope we can narrow the gap to Red Bull,” added Rosberg.

Although asked to share his thoughts on dominating the Mercedes garage after the first 4 rounds of the season, while also topping a lot of the championship favorites so far, Rosberg picked his words very carefully and avoided stepping into polemics with his teammate Schumacher.

So far I'm very pleased with how my season has gone. I am especially happy to be second in the championship. I'm happy to have been ahead of Michael so far, but it is still too early to make comparisons. I only know that I have a good feeling with the car and am able to get a lot out of it,” added Rosberg.
