Rosberg Cautious on Mercedes Form in 2011

Nico Rosberg undoubtedly had a positive season in 2010, having squeezed the best out of Mercedes' underperforming W01 challenger and finishing the season some 70 points ahead of 7-time world champion Michael Schumacher.

Needless to say, the 25-year old German expects to piggyback on those performances and further improve in 2011, with some analysts even projecting a potential title fight for him. However, having in mind the gap to champions Red Bull at the end of the 2010 campaign, Rosberg believes it will take more time for Mercedes to battle with the championship big guns for race wins and even titles.

The gap we are closing is of course fairy big. It will take time and I don't know how much,” admitted Rosberg in a recent interview with the SID news agency. “Perhaps at the beginning of next season we will be close. We will have to see, it is difficult to predict. What is definite is that we will look better than this year.

Looking back at his maiden campaign with Mercedes in 2010, Rosberg admitted that he finds comfort in the fact that he beat his teammate in the championship, yet he can't be happy with scoring only a few podiums throughout the season. We'll remind you that the German driver is yet to win a race in Formula One, now that he enters his 6th season in the series.

On the one hand, I'm obviously happy that I was able to beat Michael (in 2010),” he continued. “That was very important because you compare yourself with who is in the other car. On the other hand, I had hoped for better results, but they will come – hopefully in the near future.”
