Given all the hype built around the Nurburgring, you would imagine that aficionados take all the necessary precautions to ensure they can lap the infamous German track as quickly as possible before setting wheel on the track. Well, you'd be wrong. For instance, there are plenty of gearheads who hit the Ring with the roof boxes on.
And if you have a hard time believing that, we've brought along a compilation that might just convince you.

As you'll be able to notice in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page, seeing a car with accessories strapped to its roof while blitzing the Green Hell isn't a rare occurrence.

This is even more interesting if you think about the fact that there's no worse place to put some extra weight. And we all know that additional kilos affect all the areas of the driving experience, from acceleration and braking to handling.

Heck, there are Porsche owners out there who pay old Miata money to have a Weissach Package installed, which means the roof (along with other components) is made from carbon fiber.

Then again, it looks like these overly practical drivers are having tons of fun while flying from one Ring corner to another. And, truth be told, the experience should be more about this than what the stopwatch has to say.

Speaking of the Nurburgring, we'll remind you that the track is currently closed and won't open its gates to machines until March next year.

Meanwhile, the circuit is receiving a few updates that aim to make it safer and we've recently showcased a video of the work taking place at the track. Then again, some of you might not be all that thrilled to find out at the bump at the Schwedenkreuz entry is now gone.
