Remember when we told you guys about Ron Pratte’s tremendous car collection being packed and sent to auction, back in June? Well, it was time for the 1950 General Motors Futurliner “Parade of Progress” to go under the hammer at the Barrett-Jackson’s headquarters the other day.

Not only did the rare vehicle create the proper amazement on the crowd faces, but it also gathered quite the bid. What’s even better is that this is the second time the multi millionaire manages to make everybody’s jaw drop.

You see, this iconic vehicle was acquired by Ron Pratte in a similar auction-lot sales, back in 2006, when it was sold for $4.1 million. As he did with a lot of other rare vehicles he bought from auction sales, Pratte latter restored the American legend up to its initial glory.

In case you haven’t yet found out, the one of 12 ever built by GM, is a self-contained display and transport bus created under Harley Earl’s direction. Opening side, lighting, retractable stage, distinctive center “cupola” cockpit driving position and dual-wheel front axle are just a few of its features.

Powered by a classic 440ci GM truck engine, the machine was used in the “Parade of Progress” touring exhibit created by “Boss” Kettering that complemented the GM “Motoramas” from 1940 through 1956.

The iconic bus is perfectly functional and was bought for $4 million on Saturday night. Apart from the fact that the phone bidder who won the auction will become the owner of only one out of four still existing on the planet, the proceeds off the bus will benefit the Armed Forces Foundation. It’s basically a win-win situation.
