Investigated by the FIA for presumably “lying to the Australian stewards on purpose”, team McLaren Mercedes has already fired sporting director Dave Ryan on Tuesday. Ryan was believed to have encouraged Lewis Hamilton to elude the truth from the Aussie stewards in the post-race investigation.
Although the reigning world champion was instructed to let Trulli pass him under safety car – as the latest radio evidence clearly show – neither him nor Ryan admitted it to the stewards in the first place. However, according to a late report from British newspaper The Times, is seems Dennis might have spoken to Ryan in between the protest hearings at Melbourne.
According to the same report, Dennis is believed to have advised Hamilton not to apologize to the media in Sepang over the Melbourne incident. Being accused by many of being a liar, Hamilton apologized for his wrongdoings during a pre-event press conference at Sepang, while revealing he only did what he was instructed by Ryan.
Should Dennis have any connection to what happened in Australia, the former McLaren team principal will supposedly face two choices:
“According to some paddock insiders, a deal may be reached whereby Hamilton stays at McLaren but Dennis either leaves or formally renounces any involvement in future Formula One activities and leaves the running of the team entirely in Whitmarsh's hands,” said the Times report.
The FIA have already summoned McLaren to appear before the World Motor Sport Council on April 29th in order to explain their post-Melbourne actions. The Woking based team have already confirmed, via an official statement, that they will help in any way possible with the investigation.
