Rolls Royce Working on Special Edition MINI

With all the people at MINI currently celebrating the company's 50th anniversary, an interesting news story has surfaced. A report by motoringfile.com indicates that Rolls Royce, the luxury car manufacturer who's getting ready to debut the long-awaited Ghost, might get involved in the MINI brand and develop a special edition car to wear its badge. Still unclear at this time but judging by the information provided by the aforementioned source, it looks like Rolls Royce will develop several option packages for MINI's models that could add a touch of luxury to these tiny cars.

Rolls would rely on both exterior and interior enhancements, with the customized MINIs to be ordered straight from the Oxford plant. However, is not yet clear whether the Phantom manufacturer intends to focus only on luxury packages or develop their very own version of MINI that could wear its nameplate and feature all the luxurious features we are talking about.

Although it might sound impossible for some of you, there are a few things that actually back the news. First of all, both brands, Rolls Royce and MINI, are owned by the same parent company, in our case BMW, which makes the collaboration easier. Secondly, MINI is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary so, a special edition vehicle, beside the Mayfair and Camdem debuted a few days ago, would be a nice way to honor the milestone.

Last but not least, Rolls recently announced that it will add some staff to its Goodwood factory in Sussex, specifically for the production of the upcoming Ghost. Well, the new workers might meet a new model, this time in the form of a MINI.

“This is good news for the British car industry at a time when it is struggling. Britain has an exceptional talent for automotive production and we are keen to maximise this at Rolls-Royce. We now need to put people in place to bring the car to market," Rolls-Royce CEO Tom Purves said in mid-May when the company announced the decision to hire new workers.
