While preparing the Wraith's debut in Geneva, Rolls-Royce is pondering on extending its range with an outrageous V16-powered roadster and even an SUV model.
According to Car Magazine, the British luxury automaker is finally going to use a V16 powerplant, after introducing one on the 100EX concept back in 2004, in a revolutionary high-performance convertible that could rival the Bugatti Veyron.
While the new roadster is said to come with at least 700 HP under the hood, it will rather outgun the Veyron in terms of luxury, refinement and craftsmanship, rather that ludicrous top speed. So far we only know it will have a Phantom next-generation sourced aluminum space frame, long nose, short tail and lowered windscreen. The car is expected to hit the market in 2017.
The BMW-owned company is also preparing to tackle Bentley's plans for an SUV, but further details are yet to be released. "We’re monitoring the competition’s activities," says Rolls-Royce boss Harald Krüger, "and we’re regularly debating whether to take action. This applies to all brand segments and technologies."
Until new information is available, we will be hearing from Rolls-Royce as they unveil the Wraith Coupe at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.
