Not even in California, where rappers buy these majestic automobiles as if they were gold chains, does one have the chance to see the underbody of a Rolls-Royce. Such an occasion has recently arrived in China, alas in the form of an accident.
A Rolls-Royce Phantom tippled over onto a farmer’s field in a rural area situated in the proximity of Dongyang, a large city in the Zhejiang Province. The exact circumstances that led to the crash are unknown at the moment, but it appears that the driver lost control of the car in heavy rain conditions, while traveling on poor asphalt.
Usually in such situations, the vehicle rolls over as it meets the... elevation change on its way to the side of the road. Regadless of that, the luxury sedan took quite some damage in the crash. This can be seen especially on its left side, while the windshield is cracked.
The mostly flat underbody you see here helps the Rolls-Royce with both aerodynamics and soundproofing (the Phantom has a double insulated floor). Rolls-Royce models come with a serious ground clearance and therefore they require attention to be paid to the underbody’s design.
The only good side to this story is that, according to local reports, nobody was injured in the accident.
