After displaying the Rolls Royce Ghost at the Frankfurt Auto Show, the luxury car manufacturer is getting ready for a new innovation for the auto industry: an electric version of the car. Obviously, details are still in the very early stage but a company official has already confirmed that such a model would be a great idea in the current market.
An electric Ghost is nothing but a project at this time but Richard Carter, spokesman for Rolls Royce said this model could sell very well especially if taking into account that the company's luxurious models are usually meant to be used in occasions when high mileage is not a major demand.
As for the new Rolls, it will be powered by a 6.6-liter V12 twin turbo engine that develops a maximum output of 563 hp and 780 Nm of torque. This means the car can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 4.6 seconds. The maximum speed is 155 mph (250 km/h), obviously electronically limited by the manufacturer for your personal safety.
"200EX is a modern execution of timeless Rolls-Royce elegance, breaking with some areas of tradition but retaining the core values that make our marque unique," said Chief Executive Officer Tom Purves when presenting the concept the Ghost is based on. "We expect the more informal design to broaden the appeal of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, attracting people who appreciate its fusion of refinement, new technology and contemporary style."
The model is projected to go on sale in the next few months, with prices likely to go into the 200,000 - 300,000 euros range.
