Even though the styling of the Cullinan polarizes opinion, there’s no denying the Rolls-Royce utility vehicle is far more pompous than the Bentley Bentayga. Going one step beyond for car collector Michael Fux, this particular example of the breed is painted in Fux Orange just for the hell of it.
If you heard the name before and you know his history with Rolls-Royce, this is Michael’s twelfth commission with the British ultra-luxury brand. Two plaques in the door sills confirm the hand-built character of the Cullinan, also mentioning the Goodwood factory and the owner’s name.
“Michael Fux is a true patron of our Rolls-Royce bespoke artistry. He has continually brought us color challenges ranging from exterior finishes to perfect color matching for a variety of materials throughout his creations,” said chief executive officer Torsten Müller-Ötvös. “For more than a decade, my team has never failed to deliver for him and the brand.”
If you were wondering where the color comes from, Michael saw the vibrant orange in the guise of a ladies wrap during a trip to South Florida. Having purchased the ladies wrap, Fux sent it to the Bespoke Collective for nearly a year or prepping for the big moment. More than seven layers were utilized to get the color right, polished mostly by hand for multiple hours.
Even the black wheels feature pinstripe wheel centers in Fux Orange, and the interior combines Arctic White leather upholstery with Orange contrast stitching for good measure. As expected, the one-off Cullinan further includes Fux Orange for the fascia veneer and lambswool floor mats.
As opposed to other manufacturers, Rolls-Royce has dozens of colors reserved for numerous clients such as Mr. Fux. He owns no fewer than ten bespoke colors, all featuring his name. With his permission, other clients can use these colors for the Cullinan, Phantom, Dawn, Wraith, and Ghost.
The finishing touch comes in the form of the Spirit of Ecstasy, the iconic embodiment of all things R-R. Michael Fux specified his Cullinan with the Illuminated option, translating to a frosted glass effect and backlighting that activates when the welcome lighting is on and the vehicle is stationary.
