Starting today wealthy Cambodians will be able to buy the luxury British iconic brand cars, as Rolls-Royce Motor Cars officially launched its first dealership in Phnom Penh. According to the company, the demand for luxury automobiles is growing as the Asian country is experiencing a rapid economic gain.
The announcement was made today, having Paul Harris, the regional director for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Asia Pacific, and Cham Prasidh, Cambodian Minister of Industry and Handicraft, invited at the event. Harris said the firm’s expansion to Cambodia was possible thanks to the country’s rapid economic growth in the last decade and off the rising demand for luxury vehicles.

“We are very happy to see our brand blossom in yet another Southeast Asian market. We have seen positive signs in this market thanks to a burgeoning economy and therefore a growing base of highly successful, entrepreneurial customers,” he said at the launching ceremony.

The Industry minister confirmed that the country has seen a growing number of middle-and high-class families thanks to better economic situation: “I’m very confident that Rolls-Royce cars will have room to grow in Cambodia because the country has many Oknhsa (tycoons), so they have money to buy them.”

Only one company was granted with the authority to become an official dealer in Cambodia, the HGB Group Co. According to the minister, about 10 Rolls-Royce cars were registered in the country, noting that a newer mode was about $950,000.

It is known the Cambodian taxes are pretty high, so if we were to take a 2014 Rolls-Royce Wraith that costs about $290,000 (EUR 212, 000) without any taxes as an example, it would mean that the price the luxury cars get in Cambodia vary from 2,5 to 3 times the initial one.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars added that 3,630 cars were delivered globally to customers last year with each selling above $273,000 (EUR 200,000), without counting the local taxes.
