Whichever sort of music resonates most with you, there’s no denying the artists and tracks ranked on Billboard’s charts are the trendsetters. And for all intents and purposes, most recording artists can’t help but advocate for the high life.
Wealth, as well as aspiration, go hand in hand with luxury automobiles, which is why it doesn’t come as a surprise Rolls-Royce is the most referenced brand in Top 20 songs over the past three years. The Bloomberg study makes a point as to how brands are perceived by both artists and their listeners.

“Rolls-Royce tops the list, featured in 11 different tunes by such artists as Future, The Weeknd, and Kodak Black.” The supercar maker to rule them all comes in on second, and Hennessy cognac settles for third. The rest of the ranking features Porsche, Chevrolet, Lamborghini, Bentley, Cadillac, Jordans, Mercedes-Benz, Rolex, and [drum roll] Xanax. Weird world we live in, huh?

Quick recap: according to pop culture, the hippest of hip people are chauffered in Rolls-Royces, drink Hennessy cognac, wear Air Jordan sneakers and Rolex watches, and treat their anxiety disorders with Xanax. Jokes aside, brand references get weirder if we take a look lower down the ranking.

Take Taylor Swift as a perfect case in point. In Bad Blood, she references Band-Aid bandages. Other brands worthy of mention include Trojan condoms, A1 steak sauce, Barbie dolls, Adobe Photoshop, and Wrigley’s Doublemint. If I may turn back the story’s focus on Rolls-Royce, the automaker sees these references as a plus point for the brand in the eyes of potential customers.

According to company spokesperson Gerry Spahn, Rolls-Royce makes “no judgments. We want to be connected to success.” It seems, therefore, that most publicity is good publicity according to the BMW-owned automaker. Who could blame these recording artists for featuring the Phantom, Wraith, Dawn, and all the other luxobarges in their music videos? After all, there's no better way of celebrating succes than rolling daily in a Rolls-Royce.

By the way, searching "Rolls-Royce" on lyrics.com reveals the extent of music artists' fascination for the brand, with the company being referenced a mind-boggling 701 times according to the website's extensive database.
