No other contender ever stood a chance, really, as the new Rolls-Royce Dawn takes everything that made the British brand famous, and distils it into a gorgeous and imposing full-size cabriolet.
The swarms of people flocking at the Rolls-Royce stand around the new Drophead is proof that even though everybody knew what the car looked like in advance, there's nothing like seeing a Rolls-Royce live. While it made life more difficult for those trying to catch the car on camera (ourselves included), it also made a clear statement about Rolls-Royce's undeniable halo of exclusivity.

We've covered the Dawn extensively prior to its official release in Frankfurt, so there's little left to say. Apart from the bold blue and orange combination used on the preview car as well, the stand in Frankfurt also had a more conventional looking Rolls-Royce Dawn. The second car features the classic Rolls-Royce combination of dark red (burgundy, bordeaux, you name it) and silver, which instantly makes the Dawn look more old-school.

As a matter of fact, if we were ever in doubt about the first color scheme, we've made up our mind now: it's the way forward. Simply by going for a different approach in terms of trimming, Rolls-Royce managed to make its car look twenty years younger. Even so, that still doesn't excuse pink Ghosts in our book.

Without getting into all the details once again, it suffices to say the Rolls-Royce Dawn drophead comes with all the usual luxury paraphernalia, including a wooden deck behind the rear seats that will make you wonder whether you can fit a mast and a sail on it and go around the world.

You can't, but you won't really feel the need to as the Dawn is perfectly able to sail over asphalt. It'll be immensely quiet and comfortable while the 6.6 V12 engine will give it more power than any wind ever could.

Have a look at the gallery below or visit our earlier piece on the car for more details.
