Rolls-Royce Car Parade Assisted by Italian Carabinieri

The Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este which was held over the weekend of May 22 and 23 included a parade of Rolls-Royce vehicles through the roads on Lake Como, accompanied by the Italian motorcycle police. The Carabinieri escorted a dozen Rolls-Royces on their path for the procession through winding streets and small villages.

The cars involved in the parade were driven by Rolls-Royce customers and VIP guests. The route started at Villa d'Este in Cernobbio, ending in Gravedona where guests were shuttled across the lake on three J-Craft Torpedo motor cruisers, for lunch in Bellagio.

A selection of Rolls-Royce Phantom, Phantom Drophead Coupe, Phantom Coupe and Ghost models took part in the procession.

"We know the Italians appreciate the finest things in life - and we have the Carabinieri to thank for making sure our guests arrived for lunch with broad smiles on their faces."

As for the Concours itself, for the first time the cars were joined by motorcycles competing for class and overall victory in a competition of their own.

The jury awarded the Trofeo BMW Group, and with it “best of show” honours, to a 1968 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, while the time-honoured Coppa d’Oro prize decided by public referendum went to an Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS from 1942. The “Concept Cars and Prototypes” category, meanwhile, was topped by the Aston Martin Zagato celebrating its world premiere at the event. The Trofeo BMW Group in the first Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este for motorcycles was won by an American Pierce Four from 1910.
