Rolls Royce 200EX Official Photos and Specs Before the 2009 Geneva Show

Photos and specs of the Rolls Royce 200EX are finally here and they come not in the shape of rumor and gossip, but as official releases.

200EX brings a new approach in design that the company hopes will help the brand enter previously unchallenged segments of the market. It is noticeably less formal than previous models, making it appropriate in circumstances other than going to a state funeral or meet up with some Sheikh in Dubai.

“200EX is a touring saloon with more than a little panache and perhaps more bravado than one might have expected from Rolls-Royce Motor Cars,” Chief Designer Ian Cameron said.

The exterior design is dominated by large, uninterrupted surfaces, while horizontal lines stream along the body of the car. The tapered rear is enhanced by shoulders and flanks that draw in sharply, from the rear wings to the tail-lights.

The rear-hinged coach doors, revived in 2003 on the Phantom, open through 83 degrees, offering the widest rear access in the car industry. At the front, a pair of LED headlamps flank the new shape of the Roll's trademark grille.

The exterior of 200EX is finished in Darkest Tungsten, which contrasts with the silver satin finish applied to the bonnet and A-pillar. Seven-spoke, 20-inch wheels complete the visual design of the exterior.

“200EX is a modern execution of timeless Rolls-Royce elegance, breaking with some areas of tradition but retaining the core values that make our marque unique,” said Chief Executive Officer Tom Purves.

The manufacturer is calling the new model "its latest experimental car" and is scheduled to take off the wraps on March 3 at the 2009 Geneva Show. 200EX is a design study that previews the future RR4, a new model series from Rolls-Royce due for production in 2010.
