Renown Swiss watchmaker Rolex has been signed as the Official Timing Partner of the Bloodhound Project in its attempt to break the Land Speed Record in 2013. The team led by Richard Noble OBE will try setting a new record of 1,000mph in South Africa two years from now, and Rolex will be supporting them in their efforts.
As Official Timing Partner, Rolex is re-igniting a relationship with the World Land Speed Record first established in the 1920s with Sir Malcolm Campbell, who was one of Rolex’s first brand ambassadors.
Wing Commander Andy Green OBE will drive the car with the aim of breaking the current record of 763mph that he set in 1997 with Thrust SSC.
“I’m enormously proud that I’ll be wearing a Rolex on my wrist when we go for the record. It will take 3.6 seconds to cover the Measured Mile, and then the team will race like hell to get the car turned around for a return run within the hour with the world watching. It will be a split second business and terrifically exciting but the real prize is the creation of a lasting legacy that inspires young people to take up careers in science and engineering. It’s going to be a very special moment in time and I’m delighted to welcome Rolex, the leader in time, to the team,” driver Andy Green stated.

It is hugely important that a brand of its pedigree become a partner in this project, especially considering Rolex's history of supporting record-breaking endeavors now and in the past. This is the first major brand partnership to compliment our existing technical partnerships and I’m pleased to say the technical, educational and commercial programmes are all on schedule for 2013,” Noble added.
