Somewhere around mid-June we mentioned Roland Sands' new project Cafe Moto, a really daring shot at cafe-racer glory, but based on a completely different machine: a KTM 690 Enduro R beast. The bike is now finished and it looks intriguing, to say the least.
Save for the RSD accents, the KTM 690 Cafe Moto shows extensive reworking, with the custom trellis frame and the low-swung Graves Motorsports clip-ons. The tank, seat pan and rear cowl are also custom fabrications, just like the saddle itself.
A 690 Duke provided the fork, and it was shortened and revalved by Race Tech. The same manufacturer brought the rear shock for more consistent performance. Roalnd Sands went for KTM original engine upgrades: an EVO 2 tuning kit including a racing cam and a K&N filter, plus a host of other lighter parts. A custom RSD Slant exhaust was updated for the thumper power plant, too.
The off-road 21" and 18" wheels were replaced with 17" Morris rims witha nickel anodizing effect, and received Dunlop Q3 Sportmax for great results on the track and street, alike. Add in Airtrix' Chris Wood impeccable graphics for a totally impressive, if uncanny, "racing cafe-racer".
