Here's a new and nifty project from our beloved Roland Sands, now working on a cafe-racer iteration of an already amazing piece of machinery: the KTM 690.
While the 690 makes a great platform for both adventure/enduro and supermoto bikes, Sands dreams of a lightweight road racer boasting the acclaimed orange power and character and the modern-retro styling to tun heads. "There’s nothing quite like a sub-300lb. motorcycle with 60 plus HP, great suspension, big brakes and sticky tires. The KTM 690 is perhaps the perfect starting point for such a bike," Roland himself says.
After ditching the unnecessary plastic covers and parts, RSD are working to tweak the swingarm and the suspensions: they need their geometry re-worked on to achieve the road racing stance and performance.
Roland also speaks about an ”engine massage” in order to make it a bit brawnier than what KTM delivered off the mill. The pics show the tail already taking shape, and we're eager to see the finished tank. We know the real bike will look tenfold more awesome than the dull rendering sketch , and we're also looking forward to watching Roland's movie riding the KTM 690 CafeMoto.
